A workstation class machine with at least a 1ghz processor, 512 meg of ram and a 20gig hard drive is adequate for most schools up to 3a. We might want something more for 4a+ schools.
You will need a Windows 2000 or 2003 server (even if it is a workstation class machine).
All of your hardware vendors sell a machine like you
need.
Below is a general guideline if you were to set up a new computer for this:
1) Install Windows 2000 or 2003 SERVER (Make sure to assign this server a fixed IP address)
2) Install IIS
3) Go to Windows update and do all critical patches
Information that you will need to provide:
Email server, user name and password for the system that will relay email for this IP address
LDAP server and paths (if applicable). You can test these by opening a browser and type LDAP://YourLDAPserver/YourLDAPpath
Your school's logo saved as logo.gif that will be the banner for the home page.
We can remotely assist you with the items below:
4) Run C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\aspnet_regiis.exe –i
5) Run DisLog.Patcher
6) Set configurations: We can customize it for data fields to use, colors
and logos to suit your taste and requirements. We can import your Windows
Active Directory Services or Novell’s eDirectory users list or you can manually
maintain the user base if desired.
Once the installation is complete, any machine in your district that has a
browser (Internet Explorer or FireFox) can access the DisLog software.
